Amazon People Technology is migrating its core human capital management (HCM) software to Workday. In the process of this migration, the team is building out a new software ecosystem to allow business critical systems (like payroll and badging systems) to securely access People Data. We are looking for an experienced senior manager of software development managers that will define the vision and build the ecosystem needed to securely vend Amazon’s workforce data. Our ideal leader thrives in a rapidly changing environment, relishes finding and stretching system limits, enjoys the challenge of highly complex business contexts (that are typically being defined in real-time), and, above all else, is a passionate builder of talent and teams.

You are willing to insist on the highest standards for quality, maintainability, performance, and user experience. You will define and evolve the teams’ methodologies for building software solutions at a fast pace with no user disruptions. You will own the goals and roadmap of our People Data systems to meet the needs of Amazon’s global workforce. You will demonstrate strong leadership as you control your own destiny in Amazon's ownership oriented culture.

As a leader on this team, you will influence and drive architectural and design choices, develop world-class interfaces, and build a scalable, adaptable ecosystem that allows us to invent and launch new features quickly. Our team culture encourages innovation and we expect engineers and management alike to take a high level of ownership for the product vision, technical architecture and project delivery. We need a leader who can cut through the noise, passionately simplify, deliver results, and build diverse teams around themselves.

In this role, you will hire and lead a world-class engineering team responsible for rethinking the assumptions behind how workforce management is done in a corporate setting. You will draw from your deep and broad technical expertise to hire and mentor engineers, and provide leadership on complex technical issues. You will be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technical projects with a significant bottom-line impact on our business and competitive position.

Amazon is an Equal Opportunity - Affirmative Action Employer - Minority/Female/Disability/Veteran/Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation

    Basic Qualifications

    · Strong business judgment and record of making the right decisions
    · Experience hiring and developing technical leaders, including technical managers
    · Experience simplifying both processes and technical implementations
    · Passion for insisting on high standards (to the point that most other people would think they are being unreasonable)
    · Expects and requires innovation of her/his team
    · Experience delivering large, multi-year projects on time
    · Deep understanding of software engineering best practices
    · Bachelor degree in a technical field or equivalent experience, MBA or advanced degree preferred

    Preferred Qualifications

    · Experience managing managers, and leading a team of at least 20 technical people
    · Experience managing engineers and/or managers across multiple locations
    · Track record of building and delivering critical, 24x7 production systems
    · Experience with Workday, PeopleSoft, or other HCM systems
    · Experience with Amazon Web Services
    · Deep understanding of enterprise systems and data integration
    · Deep understanding of agile project management methodologies
    · Experience writing production code
    · Experience with global technology implementation efforts and rollouts
    · Experience with software quality assurance and performance testing
