    Amazon.com is looking for a highly motivated Network Engineering Manager to help build and scale one of the worlds largest networks.

    As Network Engineering manager you will be responsible for leading a team of experienced Engineers and have ultimate responsibility for for global, end-to-end delivery of one of the key areas of our network; including capacity management, implementation, automation, standards, process management and change control. At Amazon, we ask our technical leaders to be strong engineers who can dive deep and get involved in addition to being strong managers.
    As a manager within the Networking team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating sane processes, procedures and automation to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects.. You will work closely on supporting our internal customers and ensuring that their needs and issues are being addressed.


    Responsibilities:
    Operational Excellence
    As a manager within the Networking team you will be expected to drive operational excellence in everything we do. This includes creating sane processes and procedures to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects.


    Operational Measurement and Optimization
    As a Network Engineering manager you will be expected to drive quality into the metrics we report and to create mechanisms to assist us in focusing on the areas that give us the best ROI. This includes measurement of our operational performance, network capacity, supplier issues, etc. You will drive and define processes that optimize our workflow and create efficiencies in how we operate.

    Technical Leadership
    As a manager of a highly technical team, which has responsibility for operational availability of the Amazon global network, you will be expected to have a deep knowledge of your area. As part of your role, you will be required to review and approve network changes for your team. Additionally, you will on occasion need to develop a detailed, low-level understanding of network issues that do occur and to be able to represent those issues at operational management review meetings.

    Performance Management/Team Health
    You will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required. You will be expected to provide both technical and Œsoft skill¹ mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, world-class organization. This includes project management, quality audits and coordination of training sessions with senior-level engineers as well as day-to-day oversight of the team including scheduling of a 7x8x365 operational rota.


    Recruiting and Hiring
    You will take the lead in hiring quality personnel who not only fit the needs of the current organization but also will allow the team to scale with platform and service growth. You will coordinate with Amazon and external recruiting staff to evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during on-site interview loops. You will also be responsible for ensuring that proper training takes place for all new hires.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Primary Qualifications


      Must have a high degree of organization and be very detail-oriented. Must be able to interact with and influence people at all levels and have excellent public speaking skills. Must have the ability to contribute to and support long-term visions and direction regarding Networking at Amazon. Experience in building and managing a team of strong technical people, and prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team is crucial to success. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success in driving operational excellence, including coordinating and driving issues to resolution autonomously utilizing excellent judgment skills.

      · Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or relevant degree/experience
      · Minimum of 5+ years experience in technology roles and 3+ years in a Network or Systems Engineering management role
      · Past experience with network operations either as a manager or individual contributor
      · 3+ Years Experience communicating/presenting to senior leadership
      · 3+ Years Experience in building and managing a team of strong technical people
      · Past experience running teams of 8+

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Preferred Qualifications
      · 8+ years in a technology role and 4+ years in a management
      · Depth of experience creating and implementing high quality, high volume recruiting plans
      · Experience contributing to the creation and implementation of high quality, high volume recruiting plans
      · Experience presenting root cause analysis and error correction from operational events to senior management
      · Working knowledge and experience of developing operational metrics
      · Working knowledge of Networking (TCP/IP, Routing/Switching & Troubleshooting)
      · Experience representing your team/technical area to senior management
      · In-depth knowledge of Networking
      · Experience in contributing to the definition and implementation of automation opportunities within an operations environment
      · Experience in agile management methodologies
      · Experience with lean methodologies and Six-Sigma or similar qualification
