Build on AWS for AWS! We are a development team tasked with creating a new set of services and applications to scale up AWS solution architects, other internal teams, partners and customers. Our products currently help our users find experts on AWS topics, manage and share AWS knowledge, and collect feedback from customers. Our next set of tasks are aimed at intelligent knowledge management and machine learning.

Placed at the meeting point of architects, partners, business and customers gives the team a unique perspective on the AWS business at large; which enables it to impact and transform the experience of all the external groups as they use AWS and build a platform for internal groups to manage and grow the business.

Our customers are technologists as eager to build solutions on AWS as we are. We are small, nimble and focused. We move fast with everything we build while maintaining a high bar for quality.

Your role as Software Development Manager will be to leverage your software development expertise and leadership skills to assess the complexities of integrating with internal and external services and guide a team of developers to build those systems to work seamlessly across the Amazon and customer ecosystems. You’ll be involved in hiring junior and senior developers, designing systems from scratch, leading an agile methodology for rapid iteration to address customer issues with relevant features. You will use front-end frameworks such as Angular and GWT, proprietary service frameworks, AWS services, and multiple data stores including DynamoDB, RDS and Redshift. You’ll work with Amazon’s recruitment team to hire developers, SAs and Product Managers to define features and be responsible for their end-to-end development and delivery.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5-10 years professional experience in full-lifecycle software development

  • 5-10 years professional experience leading a team of software developers in an agile setting.

  • 5-10 years recruiting software development talent.

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or related field

  • Strong object-oriented design and programming in one or more of the following: Java, Perl, Ruby, C#, C++, or Python

  • Understanding and experience with web technologies (HTML, HTTP, CSS, JSON) and web frameworks on the browser or server in any language.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Computer Science or related field

  • Experience working pragmatically under deadlines with operational software is highly desired.

  • Knowledge of, and ability to setup professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

  • Database design and implementation using any RDBMS and/or NoSQL Db.

  • UI design experience

  • Distributed systems experience

  • Amazon Web Services experience
